  • Right In My Own Neighborhood

    Jef Solomon

    Paperback (lulu.com, March 21, 2009)
This book was written by the author when he was 12-13 years of age. It consists of a collection of stories describing events experienced by the author in the North Carolina neighborhood where he lived with his family in the 1960's. The author is now in his early 50's, but he believes these simple but elegant stories will offer enjoyable reading to children ages 8-12 years of age. These stories might even be enjoyed by adults who also grew up in America at that time. The book is arranged chronologically in chapters, and would be enjoyed most if read from the beginning to the end. The book's illustrator, Jeff Wallenhaupt, now also in his 50's, grew up with the author in the neighborhood described in the book, and is the character "Wally" who appears in many of the stories. The illustrations were created by him around the same time as the book was written.
